Riverside County is the fourth largest county in California, covering an impressive 7,200 square miles of diverse terrain. From fertile river valleys to low deserts, mountains, foothills and rolling plains, this area has a lot to offer. But how did it get its name?The area was originally called “Jurupa”, a word derived from the name of the California sagebrush that grows in abundance there. But when New Yorker John North arrived to establish the city in 1870, he found the name too difficult to pronounce.
He chose a name that indicated the nearby water supply instead - Riverside. Riverside is a city and the seat of Riverside County, California, United States. It is located in the Inland Empire metropolitan area and is close to Orange and Los Angeles Counties. The city is home to several legal, accounting, engineering and banking firms.
Every year, the Riverside County Regional Medical Center hosts an event to raise funds for its children's units, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Child Abuse and Neglect Unit, and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Riverside Municipal Airport is an airport within the city limits of Riverside, but it is not serviced by commercial airlines. The county shares borders with five other densely populated counties - Los Angeles, Imperial, Orange, San Diego and San Bernardino. It was created from parts of San Diego and San Bernardino counties in May 1893 after voters living in the area approved its formation.
